Lies and Legends is play of Harry Chapin story songs that was assembled after his death. The play premiered in Chicago in 1984. A cast album from a play was also released on vinyl in 1984. This musical is still performed around the country to this day.

  • May 23 - Centre Stage Company at the Bluma Appel Theatre, Toronto, ON, Canada. Lies and Legends: The Musical Stories of Harry Chapin opened on this day in Toronto at the. The play ran through June 22. The cast included: Kevin Hicks, Vince Metcalfe, Diane Stapley, Moira Walley, and Alec Willows.

  • July 29 - Pasadena Playhouse in CA. Harry Chapin: Lies and Legends played through September 11.

  • March - Macon State College Impromptu Players in Macon, GA. Performed under the name Lies and Legends: The Musical Stories of Harry Chapin.

  • January 29 - Sonoma County Repertory Theatre in Santa Rosa, CA. Thursday-Saturday February 15th. Sarcastic review includes such witticisms as "..more than two hours of antiquated folk music can certainly lead you to believe that the end is near--or at least make you wish it were..."[3]

  • February 29 - Encore Room Theatre at the Coconut Grove Playhouse in Miami, FL. Harry Chapin's America was reviewed by Bill Hirschman for the Sun-Sentinel. Also, Jackie Potts reviewed the play for the Miami New Times. The show ran through May 21st. The show received 5 nominations for local Carbonell awards.   • May 19 - The Lost Nation Theater Company and the Montpelier High School Masque at the Montpelier City Hall Arts Center, Montpelier, VT. Lies and Legends: The Music of Harry Chapin ran through May 28.
  • July 27 - Rubicon Theatre in Ventura, CA. Lies and Legend: The Music of Harry Chapin was reviewed by the LA Times. Rob Stevens of Showmag.com gave this performance a great review[4] . The show ran through August 27th.
  • August 4 - Belfry Theatre in Victoria, BC, Canada. Lies and Legend: The Musical Stories of Harry Chapin was reviewed by Robert Mitchell of CBC who gave this production a great review.
  • August 18 - Warner Theater at the Studio Theater in Torrington, CT. Lies and Legend: The Musical Stories of Harry Chapin performance dates were August 18-20 and 25-26.
  • September 20 - Act II Playhouse in Ambler, PA. Lies and Legend: The Music of Harry Chapin ran through October 16. Philadelphia Weekly gave this play an excellent review.
  • November 3 - The Studio at Theater Rhinoceros in San Francisco, CA. Lies and Legend: The Musical Stories of Harry Chapin was previewed by Richard Dodds of Theater.com who previewed this show. The show ran through November 19th.

  • January 14 - Swift Creek Mill Theater in Colonial Heights, VA. Harry Chapin's America: Lies & Legends played through March 25th. Performances were on Sunday and Tuesday nights.
  • January 30 - Cabaret Club of the Florida Studio Theatre in Sarasota, FL. Harry Chapin and Friends included the music Harry Chapin and his contemporaries. The musical revue ran through March 24.
  • May 4 - Workshop Players in Amherst, OH. The performances ran through May 30th.[5][6]
